Arsenal are set to compete with London rivals Chelsea for the signature of Denis Suarez from Barcelona this January, according to Sport Witness.
The 24-year-old has found it difficult to get game time under Ernesto Valverde this season and clearly doesn’t feature in his plans going forward.
According to the report, the Gunners are looking to plan for life without Mesut Ozil as the German has continued to be linked with a move away from the Emirates.
Like Suarez, Ozil has fallen out of favour with Unai Emery, and has been unable to hold down a regular starting spot lately.
However, should the report of Arsenal’s interest in Suarez be true, the Gunners are more likely to be looking to replace Aaron Ramsey than Mesut Ozil in the squad.
The Wales international midfielder might be on his way out of the club this month with reports linking him with an early move to Juventus if they reach an early agreement with him.
Suarez like Ramsey is a central midfielder and is adept at recycling possession and while he will not bring the goal threat Ramsey does, he will bring a lot of composure to the midfield.
AC Milan are also reportedly interested in signing the midfielder, and the Gunners could have some advantage as Milan are only interested in offering a loan deal with an option to buy.
