Why Lucas Torreira signing will be good for Arsenal – Robert Pires reveals

Get up to date on Arsenal transfer news, injury updates, fixtures, not restricting reports on Arsenal Ladies and share your opinions on Goonerhead.

A look at The Transfer Hound will show you Lucas Torreira is currently the fourth most talked about player on social media network twitter when it comes to transfer stories. And that’s not a surprise. The player has over the last one month been linked with a move to Arsenal and his wonderful performance at the world cup in Russia with Uruguay has further increased his already skyrocketing profile.

And Arsenal legend Robert Pires has joined the bandwagon. Robert Pires has revealed that he’s a big fan of Lucas Torreira. It’s understood the Gunners have agreed a £26million deal to sign Torreira and the Sampdoria star is expected to complete his move to north London after the World Cup or as soon as Uruguay are knocked out of the world cup – whichever comes first.

The 22-year-old has impressed for Uruguay in Russia and was instrumental in his side’s 2-1 victory over Portugal in which he man-marked Cristiano Ronaldo. With Uruguay facing France in the quarter-finals of the tournament, Pires singled out Torreira as a player who could cause Didier Deschamps’ team problems.

‘I like Torreira a lot,’ the former France and Arsenal winger said. ‘I was surprised by his performance. He plays it simple and is always well positioned on the pitch.

Torreira’s father confirmed earlier this week that the midfielder is set for a medical with Arsenal. ‘I want the best for my son and I also know that Arsenal showed a lot of interest in him,’ he told Radio Crc.

‘It’s not done, neither is it official, because he hasn’t signed anything, but there’s a great chance that Lucas’ future will be in England. ‘There was no problem in the negotiations, and the latest is that as soon as the World Cup ends, he’ll go to London for a medical.’

It is my hope that Arsenal will manage to get this done asap and not get hijacked by the big spenders like Chelsea and PSG. At £26m and considering what Torreira has done at the world cup so far this year, he will be a bargain buy for Arsenal. His signing would not only give Emery different options for both the Premier league and the UEFA Europa league but ensures that Xhaka can play in a move advanced role which appears to be his best position.
