The German World Cup winner, and the Gunners’ best-paid player, was one of the first names on Arsene Wenger’s teamsheet but hasn’t played since Boxing Day under Emery.
Arsenal are short of funds this January, and it appears Emery has looked at Ozil’s £350,000-a-week salary as something that can be cut from the wage bill.
Gunners supporters are split over the idea of parting company with the German, who is, on his day, world-class.
But Emery hinted that despite reports he’d rather have cash for new players than Ozil in his squad, he might not be looking to move him on.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Emery delved into his man-management tactics and revealed an approach he takes with certain players.
While managers like Jurgen Klopp like to put an arm around a player Emery prefers to try and get a positive reaction from them in another way.
“At certain times, you have to provoke friction with footballers,” said Emery.
“From that friction, you can get something more out of them, something from inside, a greater sense of ambition or maybe even a complaint – a complaint regarding the team can be positive.
