Arsenal’s squad returned for pre-season training on Monday to meet new head coach Unai Emery for the first time.
The players who have not been involved at the World Cup have spent the week at London Colney working with Emery and his coaching staff in the sweltering hot Hertfordshire sunshine.
After going through various medical and fitness tests on Monday, the group have been doing two sessions a day on the training ground.
The likes of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey have all been involved – as have Hector Bellerin, Shkodran Mustafi and new signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos, whose transfer from Borussia Dortmund was made official on Monday.
But one of the club’s other new additions this summer has been nowhere to be seen, with Bernd Leno conspicuous by is absence.
Football.London can reveal, however, that Leno is due to link up with his new teammates at the start of next week having been given an extra week off by Arsenal.
Leno has been back in Germany getting things in order following his £18 million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen and will begin at London Colney on Monday. He will be available for the club’s pre-season campaign, including the upcoming trip to Singapore later this month.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will have four televised fixtures during the first two months of the new Premier League campaign – including the game against Manchester City on the opening weekend of the season.
That game will now take place at the Emirates on Sunday, August 12 at 4pm on Sky Sports.
