Arsenal are a few documents away from their first major summer signing of the season if you judge by various media reports. Some Sports betting sites in India already suspended betting on him joining Arsenal which means they believe the deal is done.
There have been weeks of speculation surrounding Arsenal’s interest in Gonzalo Higuain, but all that speculation should turn in to a concrete transfer by next weekend. Arsenal have had a £22 million bid accepted by Real Madrid and have agreed personal terms with the striker.
So what’s the hold up?
The major delay in the transfer is the fact Real Madrid are currently without a manager. The player has declared he wants to leave and Florentino Perez has accepted the striker will leave but the club is waiting for their new boss to complete the deal.
That man is expected to be PSG’s Carlo Ancelotti. However, the Ligue 1 champions are struggling to find a replacement with Fabio Capello, Frank Rikjaard and Andre Villas-Boas all turning them down. The club have been reluctant to allow Ancelotti to leave in the first place but have since accepted his desire to join Madrid and would complete his move as soon as they found a replacement, a job that has proven difficult.
Why has finding a new manager for PSG been so difficult?
It’s no secret that the PSG hierarchy eye Arsene Wenger as a future PSG coach, while the manager has held ties with the club for a number of years. It is hugely speculated that the Arsenal boss could join the French champions next summer when his Arsenal contract expires and current managers are aware of this, so they are steering clear of the club.
Arsenal is believed to be offering Wenger a contract extension and signing that could see his job easier this season. Committing his future to Arsenal would see PSG’s interest in him drop and look for a more long term target. The sooner PSG name their next manager, the sooner Ancelotti can take the reigns at Real Madrid and finalise the move for Higuain to join Arsenal.
The club’s hefty £70 million transfer kitty is yet to be touched with Yaya Sanogo’s move from Auxerre on a free transfer. The club are expected to splash out this summer with club’s loyal supporters growing increasingly frustrated at the light spending on mediocre players. Now the club has huge finances, the Emirates faithful are eager for it to be spent and Higuain would be the perfect start.
