The month of November was an interesting one in the Premier League as there were many upsets and climbers. It was a particularly good month for Newcastle as they won against Chelsea and Everton enroute bagging the full 12 points but so was it a good month for Arsenal too despite not gaining the maximum points. Arsenal got 9 points after loosing to Manchester United.
The monthly awards have already been given and it was the Newcastle pair of Alan pardew and Tim Krul won the Manager and Player of the Month gongs. But do they deserve it? I don’t think so.
First, below is scores.co.uk team of the month ( not that we totally agree with their choice ).
For the player of the month, Arsenal had more than enough players that were more worthy winners than the Dutch goalkeeper. For example, Arsenal’s Polish goalkeeper Wojicech Szczesny is a more deserving candidate for obvious reasons. He conceded fewer goals than Krul in the month under discourse and most importantly, kept clean sheets in 3 out of the 4 matches Arsenal played despite facing huge attacking threats like Suarez, Sturridge and Lallana. On the premise of the fact that Szczesny kept 3 clean sheets while Krul only had 2. The Pole conceded just a goal while the Dutch shotstopper conceded 2 goals. Guess, the difference is clear.
Not only Szczesny deserved to make it, Koscielny and Mertesacker deserve to be there too. The Arsenal centre-back pair were key to Arsenal’s miserly defence. With both men at the heart of Arsenal’s defence, the Gunners’ conceded just a goal and suffered just a loss. The fact that in the match that Arsenal lost, only one of the 2 giants were available.
Another player that deserved a mention was Aaron Ramsey. Though he wasn’t at his goalscoring best in the month, he still managed a cracker in the win against the Reds at the Emirates. The goal he scored against Liverpool qualified to be a contender for the goal of the month for November. The way he received the pasfrom Ozil before unleashing a thunderbolt despite having a defender before him.
In the Barclays team for November, I believe Szczesny should be the goalkeeper and the central defence should be an Arsenal partnership of Mertesacker and Koscielny. Ramsey deserves a place in the midfield alongside the nod too.
