For the past few seasons Arsenal has been known as the “Selling Club” because they have sold many of their top players which include Ashley Cole, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and the now United-Hero Robin Van Persie. The reasoning behind these deals was in order to pay for their new stadium and the new infrastructure, at least that is what we are made to believe. With City, United and Chelsea predicted to be strengthening their squads, Arsenal would have to buy big or face the risk of falling even further behind the leading pack.
Arsenal has been linked with a number of high profile signings. Gonzalo Higuain has been heavily linked with Arsenal. The striking department is one that has been a problem for Arsene Wenger. Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski have all filled in at different times of the season. Gonzalo Higuain could be the man that Arsenal need right now. Lukas Podolski is a good goal scorer in his own right but the Argentinian has proven to be a more prolific goal scorer. Higuain might have been out of favour at Madrid but he still knows how to find the back of the net with 14 goals and seven assists from 23 starts this season. Could Higuain could be what Van Persie is to United, we’ll have to see.
If they manage to sign Higuain the next department they’ll have to address, would have to be their goalkeeper, Wojciech Szcesny. He is a wonderful young acrobatic keeper with heaps of talent but he didn’t have the greatest of seasons. He had a slow start but as Arsenal started picking up points towards the back end of the season, he finally found some form. He is a pivotal part of Arsenal’s defence and him getting off to a flyer could be the trick that Arsene Wenger missed in the last campaign. However, because can he can very complacent, someone needs to drill complacency out of him or better still, get in some worthy competition.
With what we already have on ground, a few additions here and there and making necessary corrections from last season may just see us win the league next season.
