The Blues have spent close to £150million this summer on Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko but Antonio Conte has made it clear that more arrivals are needed as he bids to defend the title while also compete in Europe.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who finished third last season, have already forked out over £200m on five key players, while Arsenal broke their club-record transfer fee on Alexandre Lacazette.
Conte wants the club to secure deals for one or two more players before the window closes and Kante admits Chelsea will face a sterner test during the 2017-18 campaign with the majority of their rivals strengthening.
‘It’s going to be tough because a lot of teams have strengthened [this summer], which makes it more difficult,’ Kante, who won the PFA Player of the Year award last term, told Chelsea’s official website.
‘The season starts next weekend and we have to be ready.’
Chelsea have endured a mixed pre-season schedule and were defeated by London rivals Arsenal in Sunday’s Community Shield clash.
The Blues took the lead through Victor Moses but summer signing Sead Kolasinac levelled for the Gunners, who then came out on top on penalties.
