Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain concedes he has plenty yet to learn with his new club, after struggling for form following his £35m move from Arsenal.

The 24-year-old has yet to start a game for Liverpool this season, and has looked short of confidencewith the Merseysiders. However, he scored his first Liverpool goal in Tuesday’s 7-0 win over Maribor, to the delight of manager Jurgen Klopp, and admitted after the game that he still has a lot to learn.

“Everyone is fighting for a place, I’m ready for whenever I get an opportunity. I still need to develop and learn the style of play and then whenever I get a chance, hopefully I can take it,” he said, reports the Metro.

It was reported that Oxlade-Chamberlain made the move to Liverpool to pursue his dream of becoming a central midfielder, rather than being stuck playing in wider roles. But Klopp feels the Englishman will have to be patient for opportunities given the competition in the Liverpool side.

He recently said: “Everyone needs time, even Ox. He is cool, it is fine,” suggesting no knee-jerk decisions would be made on the player’s development as a midfielder. Oxlade-Chamberlain has made eight appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season, scoring the one goal.

The former Southampton man has only been on the winning side twice as a Liverpool player, and will be hoping things get better after scoring his first goal for the Reds.
