Arsene Wenger is no longer playing the nice guy in the transfer market. He has seen many of his transfer targets go to different clubs this summer and is determined to make sure his targets arrive at the Emirates Stadium.
The clubs opening day defeat to Aston Villa has given him a wake up call as well as the injuries that have ravaged the squad in the last week. Wenger is under intense pressure to spend the £70 million he was handed at the start of the transfer window.
After having a £19 million offer rejected for Lars Bender, the club are ready to comeback with a second offer. The club are in desperate need of a midfield anchor but bulked at Marouane Fellaini’s £23 million release clause while they were beaten by Wolfsburg for Luiz Gustavo.
The club are eager to have some new reinforcements in time for their next Premier League fixture against Fulham. Wenger is still working on deals for Luis Suarez, Micah Richards and Ashley Williams but has made Bender his firm favourite for the defensive midfield role.
It is likely that Arsenal will bid around £22 million for the German along with over £70 million for the other trio which would finally break Arsenal’s quiet transfer business. The Gunners have been busy in departures but have only seen Yaya Sanogo walk through the arrival door and their defeat to Aston Villa proved they are in need of more cover.
