Wenger Remains Confident Of Signing Mkhitaryan Despite United Interest

According to the Independent, Arsene Wenger is still desperate to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan this season. The Armenian was a summer 2013 signing from Sharktar Donetsk during the time of Jurgen Klopp but initially struggled to maintain the consistency required to be a top player.

Last season, Mkhitaryan scored 20 goals and provided 33 assists In 53 games in all competitions for BVD, making him one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe. It was initially expected that he was going to extend his contract at the club at the end of the season but this wasn’t to be as the player has refused to put pen to paper making it Imminent that his time at the club is near. This means that BVD might be willing to let him leave for as little as £20 million or risk losing him for free in 2017 as his contract has 12 months to run.

At 27, Mkhitaryan is in his prime and still has some years left in him to play at the very top but what has become the most trending news for Arsenal fans is that the club are yet to close the deal for the talented attacker. With Champions League football guaranteed at Arsenal, the Armenian can be rest assured that he is joining a club that his qualities will surely be watched by all and sundry. Arsenal also have the financial clout to finance his signing and maintain a player of his calibre with life in London surely one of the best in the world.

Though the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are yet to show concern for the forward, it is less likely that the player will be attracted to such clubs after missing last season’s Champions League as Dortmund missed out on a spot in the competition. This makes it imperative that Arsenal make haste while the likes of Manchester City and PSG are yet to come into contention.

PSG are rumoured to be in the transfer market to hire Sevilla’s Unai Emery who just informed Sevilla of his desire to continue his career abroad after guiding the Andalusian’s to the group stage of the Champions League for the second time in a row (winning the Europa League three consecutive times and twice under Emery). This appointment will mean Laurent Blanc steps aside from PSG after winning the treble in French Ligue and exiting the Champions League in the quarter-final to Manchester City.

Presently Arsenal look like favourites to sign Mkhitaryan who is an improvement in the attacking midfield of a team which boasts the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Alexis Sanchez and Joel Campbell.
