After been given a short shrift by Liverpool in his pursuit of Suarez, Wenger seems not to have given up the chance of getting his man. Ahead of the Liverpool clash, Rodgers declared there was no way Suarez was going to join Arsenal since the Reds weren’t ready to trade their best player with a rival but when quizzed, the Arsenal manager was coy in his response.
“Is he still a player he would love to have in his team”— Per Sky Sports News TV channel
Wenger replied and said :
“Look, he plays for Liverpool and at the moment he is doing very well. What is important for me is players who play for Arsenal and not those who could play for Arsenal. What is important is the players who will play against Luis Suarez”.
Wenger saying ‘those that could play for Arsenal’ is an indication that Wenger still believes Suarez could still end up at Arsenal in the nearest furture (maybe winter or summer window) after all, the Gunners are still looking for a top class striker. That will br a surprise considering Liverpool’s strong stance but when it comes to Wenger, he is very unpredictable. In the past he had famously said he didn’t know Cazorla, only for him to sign him few days later, he also said he would surprise Arsenal fans last summer and presented Ozil as the surprise package. With this track record, it is obvious Wenger seems to have his way of making shocking transfers happen.
If Arsenal are to stand a chance of getting Suarez, they must be ready to spend big and also hope Liverpool fail in their bid to finish in the top 4 and earn Champions League football. After the debacle of last summer, Suarez will likely leave this summer if Liverpool fail to provide him with his dream of Champions League football. They are currently riding high in the EPL but we could initiate a free fall for them by beating them in the top of the table clash today.
