Arsene Wenger today confirmed he expects Jack Wilshere to sign a new contract and stay at Arsenal.
Mirror Sport revealed that Arsenal have made a new offer and are confident that Wilshere will sign after months of uncertainty as his contract expires this summer.
But Gunners boss Wenger admitted that he has spoken to Wilshere and believes he will sign the new deal.
Wenger said: “The latest conversation I had with Jack looks positive for the club. I am not involved in the negotiations anymore but of course I am still in touch with Jack.
“If he wants my advice, I will give it to him. I’m convinced, like I always was, that his future is here.”
When asked whether he thinks Wilshere will definitely be an Arsenal player next season, Wenger said: “Yes, it was always my wish. I think it will happen, yes.”
Arsenal’s original offer would have seen him take a pay cut from £110,000-a-week to £90,000-a-week with the deal based on pay-as-you-play incentives.
It alerted the likes of Wolves and Everton who offered big money deals while Liverpool, Manchester City, Juventus and AC Milan were all watching developments.
However, Wilshere’s first preference was always to stay at Arsenal and the new offer is believed to be an increase and they are now hopeful he will sign.
