Arsenal are planning a late move for Juan Cuadrado, according to reports in Italy.

The Gunners have been repeatedly linked with the former Chelsea winger this summer, and transfermarketweb.com in Italy are the latest outlet to try and keep the rumours going, claiming Arsenal are planning a “last-minute attempt” to bring him to London.

A move away from the Italian club for Cuadrado doesn’t seem to make a great deal of sense. The player only joined Juventus permanently earlier in the summer, after a clause in his loan deal with Chelsea was triggered.

Juventus paid £18m to complete the deal, and would therefore probably want at least this much back from Arsenal. At 29 years old, it’d be surprising if Arsenal were willing to pay so much for someone who scored three goals and assisted 10 in 45 appearances in Italy and Europe last season.

Also, it’s not as if the Colombian is particularly out of favour in Italy. He was handed a start in Juventus’ only competitive match so far in the current campaign, and as mentioned made 45 appearances last season, including 12 of the club’s 13 Champions League matches on their run to the final.

Arsenal seem to have decided to hold onto Alexis Sanchez for another year, and have Özil, Iwobi, Welbeck and Walcott all fighting for a place in the wide-forward positions.

The more pressing concerns would be in positions such as centre-back, where Kolašinac and Monreal had to fill in against Leicester, with Gabriel seemingly on the way out. Central midfield is another potential problem area given the yearly injury struggles. £20m+ on a 29-year-old winger shouldn’t be a priority transfer for the Gunners.
