Arsene Wenger has announced to liking Wayne Rooney but were short of admitting he could bid for the forward this summer.
Rooney has asked to leave Manchester United for the second time in three years only this time, it looks like he will actually leave. The former Everton youngster was persuaded to stay last time he asked for a transfer and signed a new five-year deal however with Sir Alex Ferguson leaving his post as manager and former Toffees boss David Moyes coming in, it looks like the end of the road for Rooney.
Wayne and Moyes came to blows while the player was still at Goodison Park and the pair’s relationship became even more bitter after comments made by the player in his autobiography. In recent times, the duo have buried the hatchet but there are still questions whether the pair could work together although Moyes is hoping Rooney will stay.
The club are under no obligation to sell with Rooney still deep within his contract but keeping a player at a club against their will can be worse than selling a star man. His decision to leave Old Trafford looks final and with PSG, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Arsenal all linked with a move for the England international, he will have plenty of options in the next chapter in his career.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has stepped up his interest in the attacker by asking, “Who would turn him down?” He went on to say, “Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world.”
This is a clear indication that Wenger is watching the situation closely and could make an audacious bid to bring the striker to the Emirates. His interest in Rooney could be to add attacking options to his squad with strikers Marouane Chamakh, Park Ju-Young and Niklas Bendtner all set for summer departures leaving Olivier Giroud as Wenger’s only central forward options despite Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott expressing their desire to play there. There is no question Rooney’s arrival would improve the squad’s talent while adding winning experience to a young team but he could also be eyeing for Rooney for different reason.
Last summer Wenger had to sit back and watch Robin Van Persie join Manchester United. In one move his team was almost void of quality while his rivals were totally revamped. With Rooney wanting out of Old Trafford, a move for him could be Wenger getting even by signing United’s star man.
United fans teased the Gunners all season long with Van Persie stormed his new club to the title, should Wayne join the North London outfit, supporters could get a sense of justice, especially of Rooney made the desired impact and delivered silverware in his first season.
Links with Rooney, Fabregas and Cesar look well off, but with the financial capability that Arsenal have this summer, these transfers are more than possible and would be a big signal of intention from Arsenal for the upcoming season.
