Arsenal bounced back from two consecutive defeats in the Premier League and it was the return of Hector Bellerin to the line up that gave joy to most fans.
The Chelsea defender collided with Bellerin in the air and his arm caught the Arsenal man in the head as he fired his side in front.
Bellerin suffered a concussion as a result and needed to be substituted off after being assessed by the Arsenal medical staff.
And Alonso says he texted Bellerin the next day to make sure he was recovering.
‘I spoke to him at half-time and after the game the following day, I texted to see how he was,’ Alonso told Sky Sports.
‘I think it was an unlucky challenge, we were both going for the ball.
‘I never meant to hurt him and I hope he can play very soon.’
Arsenal supporters were annoyed to see the goal stand after watching Bellerin go down in a heap, but Alonso revealed the full-back never said to him he thought it was a foul.
‘No,’ said Alonso when asked if Bellerin complained it was a foul.
‘I asked him what happened when he fell to the ground and he told me he couldn’t remember so I think it was just unlucky and I hope he gets better soon.’
Bellerin was straight back in action against Hull on Saturday after taking a few days to recover.
Arsenal’s 2-0 win at Hull ended a run of two straight defeats, but Chelsea have the chance to go 12 points clear at the top of the table against Burnley on Sunday.
