Several star players have passed through Arsenal and the club remains one of the best breeding grounds for players.
PAUL MERSON has recalled the moment he made his Arsenal debut – and admitted: I was out of my depth!
Merson spent 11 years with the Gunners and went on to become a club legend.
But he had a day to forget when he made his first-team bow in 1986 as a teenager.
Merson flopped in his first Arsenal showing and was subsequently sent on loan to Brentford.
Merson told the Fantasy Football Club last night: “I remember coming on as sub and with my first touch I crossed the ball into the North Bank.
“I thought: ‘oh my God, I’m out of my depth here’.
“And I probably was because after that I went to Brentford on loan for 10 games!
“But to play at Highbury was great.
“I don’t even think I got five out of 10 in the paper after that for that game!”
