Unai Emery has confirmed that summer signing Lucas Torreira will make his Arsenal debut against Lazio this weekend. Torreira, 22, who signed for a fee of £27million from Sampdoria, joined up with some his new team-mates at London Colney earlier this week but was made to wait for his first appearance as Arsenal defeated Chelsea on Wednesday night. The Uruguyan midfielder is still working his way back to full fitness after a short break in the wake of the World Cup and did not travel to Dublin for the Champions Cup. Granit Xhaka, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Nacho Monreal and Torreira all remained in London as the Gunners beat Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea on penalties.
Asked if any new names will come into the squad to face Lazio in Stockholm, Emery replied: ‘At the moment I am very happy with the players who are with here with us. ‘There are more coming; Nacho Monreal, Lucas [Torreira] and [Granit] Xhaka will start to play some minutes on Saturday.’
Aaron Ramsey did not feature at the Aviva Stadium and Emery revealed that the midfielder picked up a muscle problem ahead of the match. Following Arsenal’s win, Emery said: ‘Aaron Ramsey has got a little pain in his muscle and we decided not to start him because it is maybe a big risk for him.
