UNAI EMERY has revealed Mesut Ozil was ready to take part against Chelsea – but he decided against bringing him on anyway.
Ozil returned to the Arsenal squad after being left out for the defeat against West Ham.
But he started on the bench and Arsenal took a 2-0 lead into half time and held Chelsea at bay in the second half.
And Ozil, who has been linked with a move away from Arsenal, remained on the bench having not played any part since Boxing Day.
“He was OK to play but we decided not to play him,” Emery said.
“I spoke with him. I wanted him to be ready for the match today and for the next matches with the spirit like all the players in the team.
“Today I have the confidence with him if he played. I think he could do like we wanted.
“The next matches we are going to need every player and also his quality.”
Aaron Ramsey played and impressed despite being on the verge of joining Juventus.
