Unai Emery has supplied an injury update on Nacho Monreal after the defender was subbed off in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Burnley on Saturday. The Gunners went 2-0 up at the Emirates and looked certain for victory following a solid first-half performance, but then Ashley Barnes fired back for the Clarets in the 63rd minute. However, Alex Iwobi put to bed any fears of a Burnley equaliser with a last-minute third goal for Emery’s side.
But it didn’t all run smoothly for the home side, with Monreal forced off after 37 minutes with injury with Stephan Lichtsteiner on to replace him. ‘He was starting to have a muscular problem, and we decided to change and not take more risk with him,’ Emery said on Monreal’s fitness after the match.
‘I don’t think he can play in Brighton but Koscielny can play and Mustafi is close.’ Arsenal take on the Seagulls on Boxing Day in the evening kick-off, before a crunch clash against Liverpool three days later at Anfield.
