“The transfer period demands secrets and confidentiality.”
Wenger has always been tight-lipped regarding transfers but is normally quick to dismiss rumours. His insistence to make no comment on speculation linking Suarez with the club has increased rumours of his arrival.
Wenger saw a £30 million bid rejected for the striker last week and questions of a second bid were one of the main topics ahead of his Arsenal’s Asia 2013 Tour.
“Suarez? As you know the transfer period demands secrets and confidentiality, so I can’t answer that question.”
Arsenal are desperate to sign a world-class forward with Wayne Rooney and Gonzalo Higuain targets too. A move for the latter was believed to be close but the deal has since faded. Higuain is due to meet with Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino Perez to discuss his future, with a move away still very much in mind.
The Gunners fans have endured frustrating summer transfer windows before and are set for another despite a much higher transfer kitty than normal. The club have failed to make any marquee signings so far with Yaya Sanogo the only arrival so far. They are being linked with big money moves but none have turned in to reality yet.
Higuain and Suarez are the main targets and the club’s hierarchy are confident that a deal can be made for one of them. It’s just unclear which one.
