Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira has admitted that he has been delaying his proposed move to Arsenal until after Uruguay’s campaign in the World Cup, as per a report from the Daily Mail.
The Gunners have been keen to land Torreira for some time now and it’s believed that a deal worth around £25m has been agreed with Sampdoria.
Torreira enjoyed an involved role in Uruguay’s World Cup campaign, which came to an end on Friday afternoon as France defeated them 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Yes, we could have done things differently, but I did not want to think about other things. The World Cup is important and being part of this squad meant a lot to me. But now I have more time my future will be very clear.
The important thing is that I’m happy to have been part of this squad and this World Cup, so I thank all the people who accompanied us.
Torreira looks all but set to complete his move to the Emirates in the near future following Uruguay’s exit, with Unai Emery continuing to reconstruct his Arsenal squad.
The enigmatic Sampdoria star is not the only midfielder on Arsenal’s wishlist either, with reports indicating that the Gunners have opened talks with Sevilla over a deal to sign Steven N’Zonzi.
