Arsenal will have midfielder Mikel Arteta back from a one-match suspension for Saturday’s game against Liverpool at the Emirates after he was sent off against Palace last weekend. That is certainly good news for Arsenal as the Gunners are already light weight in the defensive midfield owing to the absence of their hardman and defensive midfield lynchpin Mathieu Flamini who is out due to groin injury. With the unhappy development, Wenger will have to repose the responsibility of shielding the defence in the hands of Arteta and Ramsey. Arteta is not the only player that will be added to the team that lost to Chelsea in the midweek, German centre back Per Mertesacker and French right back Bacary Sagna who were both rested will be making a return to the team.
Serge Gnabry (ankle), Theo Walcott (abdominal surgery). Yaya Sanogo (back), Lukas Podolski (hamstring), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Abou Diaby (both knee) all miss out while they continue their rehabilitation.
The return of the trio will excite Arsenal fans as their presence will be key to beating Liverpool. After Jenkinson’s disastrous showing against Chelsea in midweek, Arsenal will need the experience and calming influence of Sagna while Mertesacker is expected to replace Vermaelen at the heart of the Gunners’ defence. Arsenal will need to be careful in the box especially with the presence of Suarez who is renowned for his antics and play acting skills in the box. In order to handle him, Arsenal’s centre backs will need to use their brain more rather than their brawn.
