Although he won his major trophy away from Arsenal, Thierry still lives on in Arsenal as probably the greatest Arsenal player ever.
Former Newcastle United striker and Premier League Alan Shearer reckons that Alexis Sanchez is the new Thierry Henry for Arsenal….
Sanchez was signed as a wide player from Barcelona in the summer of 2014 but Arsene Wenger moved the Chilean international to the centre forward role, and he has been firing on all cylinders.
And the Gunners have reaped the rewards of the tactical switch, with the Chile international bagging 14 goals in 23 games.
Shearer claims Sanchez has filled a void left by Henry’s move from Arsenal to Barcelona almost 10 years ago.
Writing for The Sun he said: “In Sanchez, Arsenal have finally got what they have been crying out for probably since Thierry Henry left them in 2007.
“And yet he has been at the Emirates for a couple of years.
“Only now is Sanchez thriving and scoring goals in the position he no doubt always coveted.”
And Shearer says the former Udinese winger’s emergence as an option up front has helped another Arsenal ace raise his game.
“[Not just that but,] in playing in that forward role, he is getting the best out of Mesut Ozil,” he added.
Arsenal return to action when they play host to West Brom on Boxing Day.
