ARSENAL are reportedly close to signing Sevilla star Ever Banega.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery already looks to be working on his January transfer business with the window soon to open and midfielder Banega is on his radar.
A move for the 30-year-old was mooted last summer when Emery took the reins but the Gunners ended up signing Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi to bolster their midfield ranks instead.
However, it seems Emery is still requesting Banega, who he coached during his time at Sevilla and Valencia.
And according to Argentine journalist Roberto Martinez, Banega is ‘close’ to sealing a switch to north London.
Ever Banega, close to leaving Sevilla to go to Arsenal by express request of Unai Emery, the coach who always extracted the best of him as a player,” Martinez tweeted.
“The winter market in Europe envisages shocking movements.”
Banega is currently under contract with the Spanish giants until 2020.
With Aaron Ramsey expected to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires, Emery could be looking at Banega to fill the void left by the Welshman.
Arsenal’s decision to allow Ramsey to leave after failing to agree a new contract has divided fans and pundits.
But former Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton believes the club would be making a mistake if they allowed him to leave.
“I would [give him a deal],” said the retired centre-forward.
