With Per Mertesacker looking like he will be leaving Arsenal at the end of his contract by June 2017 and the purchase Gabriel looking like a mistake by the club, Arsenal certainly could do with another centre back. And it appears Wenger also agrees with this school of thought. It is not a surprise that Arsenal have been linked with the signing of various centre backs.
Kostas Manolas, Kalidou Koulibaly, Mats Hummels and many centre backs have been linked. But yesterday, news emerged that Arsenal have had a big accepted by Dortmund for the signing of Neven Subotic. Many thought the player’s agent was merely using Arsenal to force Koln’s hand and get a better deal for his client.
But it appears the player is surely on his way to Arsenal as Koln have officially confirmed they won’t be signing the player despite reports that he has passed his medical. The statement reads thus; “I do not think Neven Subotic will be joining us”.
Koln were certainly interested in signing the player but it appears the offer from England was too tempting for the player to turn down. Reports claim Subotic will jet into London this weekend to undergo a medical at Arsenal.
