David Ospina is hopeful Napoli will activate their option-to-buy at the end of the season, giving him the chance to leave Arsenal permanently.
According to Italian outlet Il Mattino (via SportWitness), Ospina is ‘hoping’ that Napoli will exercise that purchase option. They claim the goalkeeper has a ‘good chance’ of making his way into the hearts of the Serie A club’s supporters, especially after the last week of football.
After a fairly rough start, where Napoli only seemed to keep clean sheets when the 30-year-old wasn’t in the team, he’s finally having his breakthrough week for the club.
First, Ospina kept a clean sheet against Liverpool in a 1-0 victory over the English side. Then, he kept another against Sassuolo in the league. That might not sound as impressive as the Liverpool result, but he was arguably man of the match against Sassuolo, making seven saves and completing 76% of his passes.
From an Arsenal point of view, it’s great to see Ospina doing well. The Gunners have alternative options in goal now, so they don’t need the Colombian to come back. They need him to keep impressing and get them some extra money in transfer fees. Hopefully, for the sake of both parties, that’s what will happen.
