Jack Wilshere says the announcement that Arsene Wenger will leave the club this summer is having an impact on his contract extension decision making process.

The midfielder still hasn’t signed a new deal with the club, with his current contract set to expire this summer. Despite rumours that Arsenal made a new offer this week, he told Sky Sports that they’re no closer to a deal.

“We are still in the same position really,” he explained. “Not much has changed. We are still talking. Obviously the boss has left which has changed things a little bit because I don’t know who is going to be the manager next year and that can change things.

“But we are still talking and I am hopeful and the club is hopeful we can get something done.”

If he does decide to leave Arsenal, the media have linked Wilshere to plenty of clubs. The 26-year-old insists he’s not thinking about any of that yet though.

“To be honest with you, I haven’t really thought about [moving somewhere else],” he said.

“I have said before that this is where I want to be and I have not really had much time to think about moving clubs.

“We have been playing every three or four days for the last three or four months so it has been difficult.”

The Mirror reports Arsenal initially made an offer of £90,000-per-week, plus some pretty large add-ons. Those bonuses should have brought his estimated total wages above his current deal of £110,000-a-week. Wilshere clearly didn’t sign that deal, and club and player ended up in a stand-off.

Now, Arsenal have apparently made a new offer of over £100,000-per-week, plus add-ons. It’s still a slight base pay cut, compared to his current wages. As long as Wilshere is playing he should earn a fair amount more though.

I’m not sure how much there is to think or talk about really. It’s a good deal for a player who hasn’t been in great form for a while now.
