Hector Bellerin’s links with Barcelona this summer looks set to become another long drawn transfer like that of Cesc Fabregas who pushed for a Barcelona return after graduating from La Masia and got his wish in 2011.
Fabregas was signed for €29 million of which the player paid €1 million himself to complete the deal. Fabregas also first captained the club in 2008. The now Chelsea midfielder joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old before impressing for so many years at the club.
Like that of Fabregas, Barcelona have again been linked with another Arsenal player who graduated from La Masia. The defender who replaced injured Daniel Carvajal of Real Madrid in the Spanish national team for the European tournament joined Arsenal from Barcelona at 16, which is the same age Fabregas joined the North London club.
As if that wasn’t enough Roberto Fernandez (Barcelona’s Sporting Director) had this to say about him, “He is a magnificent player but it is not something that we will be pursuing.”
Though Bellerin claims he wants to remain in Arsenal, it is no hidden secret he would harbour hopes on a return to his hometown of Barcelona in the future.
