Arsenal fans might not be happy to hear the news of the purported interest on Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool according to the Daily Star. The Reds have reportedly doubled Arsenal’s offer to the player. This is not the first time the fast forward has been linked with the red side of Merseyside as the club has been tracking the striker for a long time now.
It is not as if Liverpool are lacking firepower upfront as the club boasts of the likes of Divork Origi, Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke and Danny Ings who recently returned from a long term injury after signing for the club from Burnley last summer.
Vardy was so impressive for Leicester that he was named in the Premier League of the Year and also scoring vital goal (24 Premier League goals) as Leicester won their first Premier League trophy in their 128 years history. It is a known secret that a bid of £20 million would trigger the release clause of the striker which it is reported Arsenal has done but the problem lies in the fact that the South Yorkshire born player wants any decision on his future to wait until after the Euro tournament which ends in July.
This might be because he wants to use the Euro’s to increase his bargaining power for a higher pay with both Arsenal, Leicester or other interested clubs as he turns 30 next year or due to the fact that he wants to concentrate on the Euro’s which is his first international tournament.
Liverpool are reported to be ready to move on Christian Benteke who has not suited the style of Jurgen Klopp who prefers his forwards to press forward even when not in possession. Benteke was recently signed for £32 million from Midland’s Aston Villa last summer.
It is yet to be seen if the move will eventually go through although a Liverpool insider had this to say, “We know Vardy is seen as the perfect fit for Liverpool. That’s because of his pace, work ethic, ability to run channels and goal -scoring ability.”
