Arsenal’s Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla has announced he had a chance of joining Atletico Madrid during the just concluded summer transfer window but turned down the opportunity. Cazorla was been constantly linked to a move away from Arsenal in the summer but he has claimed he was calm and was not seeking a move away from Arsenal.
Atletico Madrid were in the market for a creative midfielder as they look to make up for the sales of Radamel Falcao to AS Monaco. Although back then, the reports seem unbelievable, Cazorla himself has now confirmed there was actually an offer from the Spanish club.
Cazorla told Marca : “No, because there wasn’t any of that.
“As [Enrique] Cerezo (president of Atletico) said, there was an offer and I was very calm.”
Cazorla had joined Arsenal from Malaga during the 2012 summer transfer window in a deal said to be 12 million pounds as Arsenal had to reduce his price tag by paying full cash instead of on installment basis.
