Seems it won’t be business as usual at the Emirates this summer with no high profile departure. With Walcott extending his deal in January, the onus lied on Sagna to follow suit. It seems it is looking that way if recent reports are anything to go buy. Telegraphy is reporting that the Frenchman is in contractual negotiations with
‘Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has confirmed he is in talks to extend his contract, but the full-back has not ruled out a return to France for a “new challenge” in the future. Sagna, 30, is entering into the final season of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium. Big-spending pair Paris St Germain and Monaco are said to be monitoring the situation, but former Auxerre defender Sagna, who has twice recovered from broken leg, hinted he would be happy to stay on at Arsenal if an agreement can be brokered.’
Sagna staying will give us a peaceful summer. I know the Frenchman didn’t have a good enough season but he can improve on it in the new season. His experience in the Premier League and Europe cannot be ignored and he will provide good mentoring for Jenkinson. Right back is a gamble, not every new buy from outside the league can survive in the EPL playing that position.
I know he is keen on at least a 2 years contract. If that’s his request, it is not overboard. A known devil is better than an unknown angel. Next season is a decisive period for Arsenal and we need players that will hit the ground running and not one that will spend the season finding his feet. Arsenal ended last season on a 10 game unbeaten run. The feat was achieved owing to a rock solid defence, one which had Bacary Sagna as a prominent figure. On the premise of this, he deserves a bent rule in his favour.
