“Rosicky Came In And Fitted Into Everything As Well As Mesut Ozil Or Wilshere”

Arsenal’s towering German center back Per Mertesacker has issued a rallying call to the entire Arsenal team about the issue of defending. It has been revealed that Mertesacker has warned Arsenal’s creative stars they need to concentrate on solidifying the defence before showcasing their skills on the ball.

“We know we are on a good run in the Premier League, but it needs more than just playing with full freedom and vision,”.

“We need to defend first.

“Then we can switch the rest on. You have seen what can happen after that. We have players who can play so quickly together.

“Tomas Rosicky came in and fitted into everything as well as Mesut Ozil or Jack Wilshere. When those three combined together, you could feel some magic in the air, a real chemistry.”

Well said Mertesacker. A winning side is built on a solid defence. The last time we won the Premier League, we had the best defence in the Premier League and conceded the least number of goals but defending is not a yeoman’s job or the responsibility of a single department of the team. If defenders can add their fair share of goals to ensure victory as against Stoke when Sagna and Mertesacker gave us two goals that ensured we got the maximum points, then, strikers and attacking midfielders must also contribute their own fair share of defensive duties.

He also said that the skillful players must be conscious of defending before displaying their skilful feet. This is very essential. Creative players must know where and when to dribble. Ramsey doing it at the wrong time against Dortmund cost us a goal and the eventual 3 points and all hands must be on deck to make sure there’s no repeat of such.

Thanks Per for saying all these in an interview, good as it may, it will be better if you bark it out on the pitch because that is when and where it matters most. Arsenal are having a tough spell this month and we would need a disciplined defence to leave unscathed.
