Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for VfL Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez recently, and the Gunners have received a huge boost in the pursuit of the left back as he’s handed the Bundesliga club a transfer request, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Most Arsenal fans believe the left-back position is not a priority this summer, as the attacking option is of pressing concerns, but if the Gunners have the chance to sign Rodriguez now then this is an opportunity.
Rodriguez, 23, is tipped to join fellow Swiss international and roommate Granit Xhaka at the Emirates, with Arsene Wenger apparently keen on uniting the international teammates at club level.
The defender has reportedly declared that he wants to leave, although it doesn’t say that anything is official yet, he seems to have done the needful by submitting a transfer request. Wolfsburg’s sporting director Klaus Allofs claims the club are happy to let him leave the club (via Swiss newspaper Blick), which can only be good news for us.
“Rici has stated that his future is not with us,” Allofs said.
“But we can live with this decision.”
Rodriguez performed excellently well during Switzerland’s win over Albania, he was arguably one of the best players on the pitch. Despite the fact the Swiss team weren’t at their best by any standard, but new Arsenal recruit Xhaka and his potential new Arsenal teammate Rodriguez were brilliant.
As Nacho Monreal is ageing, and might not be able to perform at the highest level for all that much longer, Kieran Gibbs yet to settle properly, Rodriguez seems to be the best fit.
