Alexandre Lacazette has responded to his dream Arsenal debut.
The Gunners’ new club record signing was left on the bench by Arsene Wenger for tonight’s game against Sydney FC and had to wait until midway through the second half to make an appearance.
But he made his mark just 15 minutes after coming off the bench – slotting him clinically after being found by a smart cut back from Alex Iwobi.
It was a fine finish, one synonymous with a striker who scored a staggering 36 times last season in all competitions for Lyon.
And Lacazette was quick to take to social media after the game to have his say on what turned out to be a dream debut for the 26-year-old frontman.
He said: “Happy to score my 1st goal with my new team! Thanks Alex Iwobi – great assist.”
Lacazette’s goal was he perfect way to round off an excellent night for Arsenal, who had gone in front through Per Mertesacker’s early goal.
And Wenger was delighted to see his new striker get off the mark early on.
“It was important for him to get that [first goal] off his shoulders because you expect to score if you are a striker,” said the Arsenal boss.
“You could see that he was happy.”
