According to Spanish website El Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal may not have to spend big to snap up Barcelona striker Cristian Tello as first thought as it has been revealed that the Catalan star has a buy-out clause of just £10 million in his contract.
He is one of the best and most exciting talents Barca have to offer and to come out of the La Masia academy in recent times, but he is reportedly unhappy at being a bit-part player and would like more starts in the first team.
Tello’s probable move to Arsenal would benefit both parties (Arsenal and Tello) ahead of the new campaign. With Barcelona set to bring in Brazilian sensation, Santos’ Neymar according to reports, the Spanish youngster might find himself spiraling further down the pecking order and first team football rare to come by. Hence, a move to Arsenal will avail him more first team opportunities and won’t miss much as the Gunners are likely going to be in the UEFA Champions League.
His move would be beneficial to Arsenal in many ways. One is that he won’t cost much in transfer fees and wages. He would also be a quality addition to the Gunners’ rank. With Arshavin set to leave the club in the summer, he could be a suitable replacement for the Russian.
His versatility means he could play on either wings. He could be the long term solution to the problematic left wing. Arsenal have not had a true natural left winger since the exit of Pires and Reyes. Those that have filled that void have been playmakers forced into wingers by Wenger. For Barca, he operates on the left, hence, he won’t be out of sorts playing that role for Arsenal.
His arrival could also mean Podolski’s switch to the center. Wenger recently revealed he was preparing the German for the centre forward role.
Arsenal have been linked with other attackers (Goetze, Reus and Isco), Tello seems a cheaper option. The only challenge we might have with him is that he might struggle to adapt to the physical nature of the Premier League owing to his pint size but if Oscar could, I don’t see why he cannot.
