AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang is set to reject interest from Arsenal and Everton to stay at the San Siro this summer.
Having scored just three goals in his 18 appearances for AC Milan last season, Niang was loaned out to Watford for the second half of 2016/17. He scored even fewer goals with the Hornets than in Italy, only managing two in his 11 outings.
With two years remaining on his contract, it had been rumoured that Niang would look elsewhere for a consistent spot in the starting eleven. He was linked to Arsenal, Torino and Everton, according to talkSPORT.
A place in the side would have been very hard to come by at Arsenal with Danny Welbeck, Olivier Giroud and Alexandre Lacazette as options up front. He’d likely struggling at Eveton too, with Wayne Rooney having joined this summer and potentially the Toffees first-choice in attack.
Perhaps fearing that he would struggle to feature in another side on a more regular basis, Niang has now reportedly agreed with the club that he’ll stay. It seems at first glance that Niang will find it even more difficult to play this season, with the number of new signings Milan have brought in under new ownership.
Head coach Vincenzo Montella has been impressed with the player in pre-season, however, and could well give him a chance to prove his worth.
