Arsenal transfer target Thomas Lemar confirmed his presence in Monaco training ahead his side’s Ligue 1 opener this weekend as the midfielder broke his social media silence.
Lemar remains the Gunners’ top target this summer with Arsene Wenger keen to conclude a deal for the Monaco player, but the chances of that transfer happening before the new season appear slim.
Wenger remains intent on bringing the player in but the lack of clarity over Alexis Sanchez’s future has clouded their own attempts to bring in new players, despite Arsenal being adamant their star player will not be leaving this summer.
A bid for Lemar is not linked to Sanchez’s future and Arsenal believe the Frenchman could play centrally to compensate for the prolonged injury absences of both Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere.
But Lemar’s rare post on Instagram showed the Frenchman in first-team training ahead of Monaco’s season opener against Toulouse on Friday evening as he continued his pre-season preparations with his current club.
Arsenal fans were quick to notice that Lemar had also liked a post from French teammate and the Gunners’ club-record signing Alexandre Lacazette too, with the striker’s picture from his own training session with Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck receiving a like from Lemar.
Lacazette and Lemar have struck up a close rapport at international level and the two players could link up next season if Wenger is able to seal a deal for the Monaco man.
