The ASJ Academy Academy CEO Emeka Amajiriaku has revealed that Nigeria U-20 midfielder Kelechi Nwakali was absent on his birthday because he was planning on travelling with his mother to London to sign a five -year contract with North London club Arsenal four days after playing for the Nigeria U-20 side in an African Nations Cup qualification match against Burundi.
Nwakali it emerged a long time ago, has been targeted by Arsene Wenger as the manager sees the 18-year-old as a promising prospect for the club.
According to Amajiriaku, “Kelechi donated to ASJ two sets of jerseys and Chidi (Kelechi’s elder brother ) donated 14 pairs of boots to mark Kelechi’s birthday .”
” His (Kelechi ) absence was felt, Chidiebere decided to honour his brother, he hosted the birthday in his absence . All ASJ players clustered in his house in celebration of the birthday .”
“Everyone is happy, ‘am speaking from the management angle, Kelechi is now 18. All been well, Kelechi and his mother are preparing to travel to London to finish up the whole deal, to put everything right in conviction with Diamond Academy,” he concluded.
