Micheal Owen has hit out at Arsenal again but this time around, he also added their North London neighbours Tottenham. The former Premier League journeyman declared that both Arsenal and Spurs are even in terms of entertainment and quality.
“Wasn’t too impressed with either Spurs or Arsenal today but coming off the back of tough midweek European ties is never easy.”
It would be recalled that Owen had predicted that Arsenal would not only win the
league but would also finish outside the top 4 but with 9 matches to go and Arsenal still firmly in the title race, he looks set to eat humble come the end of the season.
On the lack of entertaining derby, I quite agree with him. The match wasn’t as entertaining as expected but at this stage of the season, the end justifies the means. Who cares about showboating when title challenge is very important? Entertainment and glamour are jettisoned in favour of results and that Arsenal got, giving their title challenge a real push. People like Owen would have criticized us if we had gone for entertaining football and end up losing to the bitter rivals.
For a long time, Arsenal have been accused of lacking the mental strength but how do I judge mental strength? It is when your back is against the wall and in this case, Arsenal had theirs there and still came out tops.
