David Ospina insists he’s focusing on the World Cup, despite growing speculation surrounding his future as a result of Arsenal signing Bernd Leno.
Speaking after his country’s 3-0 win against Poland, Ospina told VivaroNews Sport that he’s aware of what’s going on at Arsenal, but for now Colombia are his primary concern.
“I’m now fully concentrated on national team,” he said. “I know that Arsenal signed a new goalkeeper, but I’m now focused on national team. After the World Cup I will think what to do next.”
Reports in Turkey suggest the 29-year-old’s representatives are already hard at work, despite what he might claim. Turkish Football wrote last week that his agent met with Fenerbahce president Ali Koc in London for preliminary talks over a transfer.
Those rumours are only growing stronger, with Fanatik (via Sport Witness) reporting that Arsenal signing Leno has increase the Super Lig club’s hopes of signing the goalkeeper. They add that new manager Philipp Cocu has ‘given the green light’ for the transfer to go ahead, as they prepare for official negotiations.
The media have also linked the goalkeeper to Mexican club Tigres, although right now those reports don’t seem as substantial.
Ospina’s performance against Poland caught the eye, both for the number of saves he made and the number of times he hit the ground ‘injured’. Hopefully he can keep making headlines for the right reasons for the remainder of Colombia’s time in the tournament.
