Arsene Wenger has admitted that the sale of one of Arsenal’s longest-serving players in the current squad could be given the green light.
The Arsenal manager is under pressure to secure more new additions after making only two signings – Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette – so far in the transfer window.
Wenger has stated in recent weeks that his priority at the moment is to sell players who are not likely to be given much playing time in the new campaign.
And one of the stars in that category is Jack Wilshere, who is yet to make a start in the Premier League for Arsenal since the 2015/16 season.
The 25-year-old has been linked with an exit following a disappointing last five years which have seen him troubled very often by injury blows.
As a result, Wenger admitted that he is ‘open’ to a transfer move for Wilshere when asked about the midfielder’s situation on Thursday.
“I’m open, you know, with Jack,” the Arsenal manager said about a possible departure for Wilshere.
“We have honest conversations. I’m open to what is the best for him.
“He is at the stage of his career where he needs to play and I cannot guarantee him today that, and I think I’m quite open on that.”
