Arsenal will lock horns with Chelsea, Manchester United and Napoli in the signing of Nicolo Barella, according to Sky Italia.
Chelsea have been in the running for the Italian’s signature, but the west London club are “resisting Maurizio Sarri’s calls” to buy him.
With the Blues seemingly edging their way out of the picture, it is Arsenal who have emerged as Napoli’s sternest competition.
Correire dello Sport claim United have issued a non-negotiable offer to the Serie A club as they look to recruit the play-maker in the January transfer window.
However, United are reportedly rivalling such interest and are reported to have made their own one time offer to land the 21-year-old this month.
It is suggested United scout David Williams is a huge fan of the midfielder and has recommended him to club hierarchy, but the Italian side do not want to compromise their price-tag.
According to the report, United made a take-it-or-leave-it offer of £30million for Barella, but Cagliari value the player closer to £45m and refused to entertain the interest.
Barella, 21, is regarded as an outstanding talent among his generation in Italy but is reluctant to move in January as his stock continues to rise in Serie A.
It is believed Chelsea were willing to pay £45 million ($57.5m)-rated Cagliari midfielder
Napoli and Inter are willing to wait until June before entering the market for Barella, so it would take a persuasive offer from Chelsea and Arsenal to change his mind and lure him to the Premier League during the January window.
He has won four caps for Italy since making his debut in a 1-1 draw with Ukraine in October 2018.
