Over the past few days Manchester United have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann. Reports last week reckoned United had been talking with Griezmann and reached an agreement with the Frenchman in regards to a move to Old Trafford in the summer. According to the reports, the Red Devils have agreed personal terms verbally with Griezmann and are ready to offer Griezmann a big contract and will give him his favorite shirt number, the number seven shirt, that is now vacant after the departure of Memphis Depay to Lyon.
However, newer reports claim Arsenal are also ready to make a move for the Frenchman and will compete with Manchester United for the signature of the former-Real Sociedad star. The Gunners were said to be interested in signing Griezmann last summer but the summer window ended and nothing happened.
Arsenal, who were previously priced at 9/1 to sign Griezmann are now 4/1 to sign the Frenchman. However, Manchester United are still clear favorites to sign the Frenchman at 5/4. Chelsea, who have also been linked with a move for Griezmann are priced at 14/1 and Manchester City are 9/1 while Paris Saint-Germain are available at 4/1 – the same as Arsenal.
Griezmann has had a relatively poor campaign so far by his standards. His poor form this season has seen Atletico Madrid struggle in the league. Diego Simeone’s men are currently 4th on the table, seven points behind leaders Real Madrid, who have two games at hand on the Los Rojiblancos.
With Arsenal still unable to reach an agreement with Alexis Sanchez over a new contract, it is easy to see why the Gunners may be interested in signing Griezmann, but considering the amount of money Manchester United are likely to be ready to offer Griezmann in terms of wages, I don’t see Arsenal winning the race for the signature of the Frenchman.
Another factor that will work in favor of Manchester United is the fact that the Red Devils have Paul Pogba in their ranks and Griezmann has himself recently confirmed he will like to play in the same club as the former-Juventus star in the summer
