Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno after he revealed that he only wants to join Napoli, according to the Daily Cannon.
The Gunners have been linked heavily with Leno in recent times, and seemed to be leading the other interested candidates, Atletico Madrid and Napoli, in the race to sign him
It seemed like Napoli were out of the race last month when the goalkeeper’s agent confirmed that they had cancelled negotiations with the Italian side.
However, the situation now appears reversed, and Napoli are now reported to be the favorites to sign the 26-year-old. Reports from Italy claim he has expressed his desire to join the Italian side, and is only waiting for Napoli.
This will come as a blow to Arsenal however, as they had been looking to sign him as a relatively cheaper option to strengthen their goalkeeper department.
The head of recruitment Sven Mislintat will now have to look elsewhere to fill in the position as David Ospina and Petr Cech both have a year left on their deal, and are unlikely to be offered new deals at the club.
