Uruguayan and Hull City forward Abel Hernandez who just won promotion to the English Premier League on Saturday from the Championship last weekend recently revealed to TMW Radio that he would have loved to join Arsenal in the last winter transfer window if the North London club had tabled a bid acceptable to Hull City at the time.
Hernandez who was signed from Palermo in the Seria A in the summer of 2014 for £10 million struggled to find his best form in the Premier League in the 2014/2015 season which saw the Yorkshire club relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
It was not until last season that the forward showed his qualities scoring 14 goals in five months (August 2015-January 2016) which saw him awarded the Championship Player of the Month of January. It was at this point that it was rumoured that Arsenal were interested in him which did not later happen. At the end of the season the forward ended up scoring 22 league goals for Steve Bruce’s side and winning promotion to the Premier League after beating both Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday in the play-off.
Hernandez had this to say about the failed move, ” I do not know if it was true or not, but it was impossible that Hull City would let me go at that time. We were the first in the league. We were doing well and we wanted to get promoted. The club did not sell any player.”
“I honestly do not know (about the future), you should ask my agent. For now we do not know. I don’t have another year of my contract with Hull City. We will see. “
“Yes, last year there was talk of some teams. But honestly now I do not know if it’s time to go back to Italy. I’ve adapted well here. Obviously, if it were to be a top Italian club , I would not think too much. But for now I’m happy here and I think of next year in the Premier League.”
