After the failed experiment and signings of Ally Cissokho, Jose Enrique and Glen Johnson at left-back for Liverpool it suddenly seemed like signing youngster Alberto Moreno from Sevilla in 2014 was the best decision the Merseyside club took at the time. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case as the youngster has failed to convince both Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool authorities that he is the right player for that position.
Moreno who is known for his pace, ability to shoot and for his pin point crossing, has shown he is unable to perform his defensive duties at ease, always been caught wandering in the opposition second half when his team is under attack, caught off guard or easily beaten when one on one with a skilful attacker.
According to Football Insider, this is the sole reason Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool is ready to meet the £12 million price valuation of the Arsenak left-back having failed in the bid to sign Hector Jonas of Cologne earlier on in the transfer window.
Gibbs on his part might seem like no improvement on Moreno as his recent form isn’t encouraging. It seems that the age of Gibbs (26) and also his nationality have influenced Liverpool’s move for him as his price of £12 million shows it is a bargain considering he is Premier League and home grown talent with so much experience which cannot be overemphasised .
Gibbs it appears would only move to Arsenal if he is guaranteed game time after falling down the pecking order to Nacho Monreal who at 30, appears to be Wenger’s first choice.
