Ozilwas dropped to the bench for Arsenal’s last away game at Bournemouth and wasn’t in the squad for the subsequent Premier League clash against rivals Tottenham on Sunday.
The Germany star may struggle to win back a place in Unai Emery’s team following the impressive 4-2 hammering of Spurs at the Emirates.
BBC Sport pundit and Gunners legend Ian Wright thinks Arsenal could now decide to get Ozil off the books, just months after handing him a huge new contract, understood to be worth around £300,000-a-week.
Last night, 5 Live Sport presenter Mark Pougatch asked Wright: “Do Arsenal have to make a decision and say, if he’s not going to be used, say to him ‘tell you what, we owe you a lot of money over your contract, we’ll pay up some of it, go and get yourself another club?'”
To which Wright replied: “You can’t tell me they may not be thinking about something like that scenario.
“If he believes Mesut Ozil can’t fit into that structure then at the moment you have to go with the manager.
“I would love Mesut Ozil to react in a positive way.
“We know it will be very difficult in Manchester, because of their history and their present, we are going to prepare in the best way possible, to have the best performance against them.
“It will be difficult, a big challenge for us.”
United star Ander Herrera admits the match is like a cup final for his side.
“We should forget right now about the table, we should try to win every game,” he said. “That’s how we will reach the top four.
“We should approach the Arsenal game like a final.”
