According to the Express, Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are set to make a move for PSG big Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani if the club fail in its bid to sign Jamie Vardy.
Arsenal submitted a bid to sign the England International last week, triggering a £20 million pounds release clause in his contract.
At the moment, the deal has stalled, and its understood that Vardy will wait until after European championships to make a final decision about his career.
Vardy is currently with the England National team currently in France at the on-going European championship. The team settled for a draw on Saturday against Russia in their group opener.
Should Vardy decide to stay at the King Power stadium, which is very much likely at the moment, then Gunners will look to sign an alternative instead.
As reported by the Express, the alternative could be South American striker Edinson Cavani, and Wenger has placed the Uruguayan at the top of his list if he fails to sign Vardy. Cavani is reportedly rated at £30 million which won’t be too expensive even in Arsenal terms.
Edinson Cavani is expected to leave PSG this summer, despite the fact that Sweeden International Zlatan Ibrahimovic has left the French club. Cavani was rumoured to have rejected a £500,000-a-week move to Super rich Chinese league, and would prefer to test his strength in the Premier League.
It’s believed that Liverpool are also interested in the Uruguayan.
Wenger seem desperate to win the English Premier league next season and looks to have abandoned his youthful policy for experience.
