The interest in Gervinho is becoming rife by the day. In recent weeks, French juggernauts, Lyon and Marseille have expressed an interest in signing the Arsenal winger but there is now a Premier League interest in the Ivorian. According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle have joined the scramble for his services and the tabloid are reporting that a deal with Pardew’s team is already been thrashed out by the Ivorian’s agent.
Since his switch from Lille, Gervinho has faltered to deceive, failing to replicate the form that saw Wenger splash out on him. In 61 Arsenal appearances, he has only managed 11 goals and 12 assists. With him having just 2 years left on his current deal and the current re-structuring going on at the Emirates, guess the time is ripe for Arsenal to cash in on him.
Arsenal paid 10 million Pounds to secure his services from Lille and will be out to recoup part of the money which will help augment Wenger’s transfer kitty. It stands to be seen what offer Newcastle will make for him. Lyon and Marseille want him on loan but the Magpies might just want a permanent deal and that might swing the pendulum in their favour but Wenger’s interest in Grenier could see Le Prof using him in a straight swap for the French midfielder or a make weight in the deal.
One likely challenge that might scuttle the deal is Gervinho’s wages. At Arsenal, he earns 50k Pounds+ wages per week and this might just be beyond the reach of his suitors. It stands to be seen if Gervinho will be willing to take a pay-cut to salvage his ailing career and brighten his chances of flying with the Elephants to Brazil next summer.
In the time been, let the clearance continue; Andre Santos, Bendtner and Park should follow suit..
